These crescent rolls are versatile, allowing you to make both sweet and savory versions. Here's how to make them:
Ingredients:
- For the Dough:
- 500g flour
- 250ml lukewarm milk
- Half a cube of fresh yeast (about 20g)
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- 1 egg (optional)
- 100ml oil
Directions:
Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, baking powder, and salt. Dissolve the fresh yeast in the lukewarm milk and add it to the flour mixture. Add the egg (if using) and oil, then knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Cover and let the dough rise until it doubles in size.Shape the Crescent Rolls: Once the dough has risen, divide it into small portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a round shape. Spread with butter, and if you’re making the sweet version, add a spoonful of Nutella in the center. Roll the dough into crescent shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Prepare for Baking: Mix an egg yolk with a little water and brush this over the top of each crescent roll for a golden finish.
Bake: Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F) and bake the rolls for about 15 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Baking time may vary depending on your oven, so keep an eye on them.
Finish: Once baked, remove them from the oven and brush with some butter for a deliciously soft finish.
Enjoy your warm, buttery crescent rolls! For a savory version, simply omit the sugar and Nutella and fill them with cheese or other savory fillings.
